Vision may be corrected by reshaping the cornea therefore changing the way the eye focuses, employing laser eye surgery. Eyesight may be improved by laser eye correction meaning it will no longer be required to use corrective lenses.
A particular method of eyesight correction surgery is LASIK eye surgery. LASIK stands for laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis. Nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism can all be taken care of by this outpatient surgical treatment which uses an excimer laser. Tissue is removed from the cornea, the transparent membrane that overlays the iris. The curve of the cornea is altered to enhance the way the eye concentrates light rays at the back of the eye.
The procedure of Laser eye surgery is quite straightforward. So that the surgeon can program the laser with the right prescription, the eye is first of all measured and the cornea is mapped as part of a pre-surgery assessment. During the time of the treatment, the eye is anesthetized with eyedrops so there is no discomfort.
A microscopically thin flap is cut on the surface of the eye. Then, to change the curvature of the cornea, the laser takes away pre-programmed quantities of cornel tissue beneath the flap with bursts of light. A natural bandage is created by closing the flap back over the eye. No more than 5 minutes are required for this part of the process.
The day following LASIK eye surgery you may most likely be seeing sufficiently well for light activities and might even be ready to go back to your job, though it normally takes three to six months for your eye to recover entirely and vision to become stable. You may need to refrain from arduous tasks, however, as the eye mends. For the majority the eyesight is sharp and improved following surgery; for others vision may well continue to sharpen as the recuperation proceeds.
There could be a number of short term, mild adverse reactions you get with laser eye surgery but as the cornea mends these normally subside. Poor evening vision, glare or halos surrounding lighting, light sensitivity, diminished sharpness of vision, small pink or red patches on the white of the eye, hazy or blurry vision, irritation, dry eye, some pain or discomfort are a few of the side effects that could be suffered.
